Great work encapsulating the complex story in couple of hours. Kudos to Maniratnam.
Characters (except Vikram, who is too old for 25+ Aditya Karikaalan) looked suiting the role. Vikram also delivered great acting keeping the age factor aside(We can safely assume Aditya looked much older because of all his stress😂😛)
Trisha and Karthi have both done justice to their characters. Parthiban doesn't go unnoticed despite playing a much smaller on screen role.
I felt BGM is not up to the mark, especially in scenes like Kunthavai asserting that the welfare of Chola Kingdom/people is her first priority- which basically establishes her character at best, her 'Raja dharmam' in keeping the nation's interests above all personal interests - where she doesn't deter from doing anything, even what she agrees as morally incorrect, for the welfare of her kingdom and her people and to ensure a stable rule under a strong King.
Justice not done to Aniruthar, Aazhwarkadiyaan and Samuthira kumaari characters as most of their feats go untold- a natural consequence of trying to fit the long story in couple hours.
Aiswarya Rai as Nandhini is a natural fit with her own enchanting looks. Her age doesn't show up much on screen and she does a good work portraying the mesmerizing side of Nandhini. However, the evil/wounded side of Nandhini wasn't portrayed very well - which somehow makes Nandhini look more like a witch misusing her looks, than a warrior with her own will, ready to stake her life and face any hardship to achieve her goal !! For instance, would have expected some anger/wrath shown on her face, mainly when she holds her personal sword with Fish symbol, which somehow I felt as missing(possibly also ineffective BGM in such scenes)
Despite these shortcomings, some of which are inevitable when moviefying a much longer Magnum Opus , this movie is must watch for all PS fans and a good watch even for whose who aren't.
Thanks Maniratnam for making this movie !! Kudos to all who were part of this movie. You have etched your names in Tamil film industry for decades to come 🙂
Hint: Consider knowing the story/ overview, before you go to the movie , to enjoy it to the fullest (atleast, the characters and what they are upto). Without this, you may end up understanding the movie /story, but may miss noticing multiple significant characters which are part of the plot, knowing which may provide you much different and enjoyable perspectives.
