The Big, Lonely Tree

Half way thru my trek,

I took a long view-

Atop the hill stood,

This big, lonely tree !!

"Are you also lonely,

As much as I am?"

I posed a silent question,

And he answered with a smile -

"Two cuckoos on my branches,

Three rats under my roots,

Ants all around me,

Insects below my leaves-

I'm never lonely,

For I live along with them..."

"Never does he get lonely,

That takes with him the needy !!"
